Ranker announces: Rule Changes Effective Immediately

Ranker announces: Rule Changes Effective Immediately:

  • There is no longer any minimum. For Ranking Season 2007, the minimum was 24 teams; for 2008, it was 16 teams; for 2009 Ranking Season and beyond, no more minimum. [Ranker still excludes sponsor, non-paying and non-brief-writing teams from the definition of "team." Ranker still excludes invitational comps.] Naturally, this rule change has the added benefit of bringing NMC regionals into the fold. EDIT: PREVIOUS SENTENCE MAY NOT BE TRUE WHERE NMC'S REGIONS' RULES REGARDING NUMBER OF TEAMS-PER-SCHOOL MAY DIFFER AMONG REGIONS.

  • NMC, ABA NAAC and Jessup national/international winners, finalists, semifinalists and quarterfinalists will receive double the points [At Jessup International, this does not mean international quarterfinalist, which I'd consider to be top eight among all teams. This means top eight among only American teams, which is naturally easier to accomplish than international quarterfinalist. But keep in mind the policy with Jessup International has always been that American finishers there only receive points for "edging out" American teams. So the number to be doubled at Jessup is small.]
